Maureen Gale has been involved in special education program planning, staff development and service delivery since 1980. She is currently a District Behavior Coach for Orange County Public Schools (OCPS). As a member of the OCPS Behavior Intervention Team, Maureen works with schools to establish site-based behavior intervention teams. Throughout the process of developing and sustaining site-based teams the behavior coaches provide staff development, collaborate with community-based agencies, facilitate the development of individual student behavior-support plans, and provide support to school teams. Support functions focus on classroom management and organization, behavior interventions and support plans, school-wide positive behavior support strategies, data collection and social skills development.
Maureen has also served as a behavior specialist, staffing coordinator, resource program coordinator, training and resource liaison and special education teacher. She has taught in a variety of special education settings including school-based special needs classrooms, resource rooms and a psychiatric hospital.
Maureen has worked with students in grades K-12 in the United States and abroad. For eleven years Maureen worked with special needs students, staff and parents in the American Overseas Schools in Montevideo, Uruguay; Tokyo, Japan; and Johannesburg, South Africa.
She is a co-author of the Survival Guide for the First-Year Special Education Teacher published by the Council for Exceptional Children. This book has been a CEC bestseller for more than 15 years and over 75,000 copies have been sold.
She is also a contributing author for Count Me In! Developing Inclusive International Schools, published by the U.S. Department of State, Office of Overseas Schools. Count Me In! is now in its fourth printing. Maureen has presented sessions at international, national, state and local conferences.
Maureen has an M. Ed. in Emotional Disturbance from the University of Florida and certification in Educational Leadership. She currently lives in Orlando, Florida with her best friends, Star and Tribble.
