Discover Mindful Eating is a pathbreaking, inspired gem of a resource for anyone in the eating disorder field! Co-authors Hammond and Burggraf have assembled the best organized and most insightful selection of mindful eating activity handouts that have ever been assembled in one place.

Whatever aspect of eating you cover in a group or individual session, handouts are extremely easy to find because they are organized into logical categories that include preparation, before eating, during eating, ending eating, and after eating. Most importantly, these handouts are instructionally sound and developed by educators and eating disorder professionals.

I find the handouts to be clearly written, concise, engaging for clients, and ready to use. Each is one-page, with patient activities on the front side of the handout, and featuring talking points and useful comments for the therapist on the back.

Thanks to Discover Mindful Eating, I don't have to worry about re-inventing a new activity for every group.

We embark on a journey of frequently uninvestigated pathways that lead to mindful eating and living. Starting with the introduction page, “Before the beginning—Arrive,” our voyage is set to nurture an intimate presence with the sacredness of life. We learn to touch each eating experience deeply.

For the clinician, a wealth of suggestions and insights are provided for the use of each piece.

I really enjoyed frolicking through each section and will be sharing them with clients and peers.

The reader experiences a banquet of useful exercises, tools, approaches, and suggestions. Some of my favorites include:

This workbook is the most helpful and inspiring contribution to the field of mindful eating thus far. It addresses all aspects of eating that often derail and demoralize overeaters. I recommend it unconditionally for weight management programs everywhere.
